The Pink Bow Tie
In the late 1980’s, Franck Mesnel’s rugby team was famous all over the country for its cheekiness and sense of spectacle. While the All Blacks would always start a game with an intimidating Haka dance, they would also come up with a fashion gimmick or a gag to lighten up the atmosphere. In 1987, they started appearing in the stadium wearing blazers and bowties. With the Pink Panther for mascot, the color was already their trademark- all they needed was an accessory to feature it. Today, the Eden Park logo, with its pink bow tie, is a nod to these years of light-hearted playfulness. Bow ties are also at the heart of the founder’s charity, Les papillons du Ciel, which support education initiatives through the bow tie sales.
